How to film in your Ultraskiff 360
The Ultraskiff is the perfect watercraft for fishermen/videographers. It gives you a great view of the boat and your surrounding whether your sitting or standing with a Go Pro or equivalent camera. With my camera on I am never fishing alone and I love knowing that if something epic happens I will have that footage to share and relive forever. When I film in the Ultraskiff I only use 2 set-ups: The Go Pro Chest or head strap Harness and/or the Ultraskiff PVC camera Extension. You can mount a Go pro anywhere, you can even just have a straight piece of PVC shooting up from the rod holder, you will still get the whole boat but not the water around the boat and if you stand up your head will be cut off. Which is why I use the PVC extension Ultraskiff Camera Stand and I film in the Superview mode in the camera settings. We make and sell these stands for $29.99. Your also welcome to make one yourself with these drawings. If your making one just reach out to us we have a nice tutorial video on building one. We also have a complete filming tutorial video. A trip to home depot and a saw should do the trick.
Here is a diagram of how I put it together. PVC is your best friend on the Ultraskiff, you can build anything you want. With 1 - 1/2" Thin Wall .0650 PVC you can can 3 - 2.5" slits on the rod holder insert pole with will fit in very snug into any of the 6 rod holders on the skiff and will not move on its own when fishing and filming. The coupling and cap can be rotated on its own. We leave the vertical extension pole unglued from the rest so you can store it in a storage compartment when not in use. I usually leave the camera on the whole day but I only hit record when things feel "fishy". I use a 64 Gig memory card and carry 2 battery back-packs. That always gets me through the whole day.
I don't take still shots from my Go Pro anymore, Now I just film through everything and then grab the stills through my video editor. This way I can grab the perfect still out of thousands of frames.
You want your camera set up in Wide on a Go Pro Hero 3 and in superview on a Go Pro Hero 4 so you get the widest shots. After you get lined up you should see the frame like this.

Here is a diagram showing what you want in the shot for the best POV from the camera stand. #1. You want to see the whole skiff. #2. You want to see water on both sides. #3 you want enough space so your head is not cut off when standing on the skiff. #4. You want to see the tip of the camera stand coming out of the rod holder. If all 4 elements are present you are lined up for the perfect shot.
